Business Dress Code for IBM China ( English Version )
Appropriate business dress will project a professional image of our company to our customers. It's very important that we have a company business dress code that will enhance the company image. Effective August 1, 1997, business dress code has been implemented in China. In order to properly cope with the new environment, we revise the former Code as followed. Please feel free to discuss the following guidelines with your manager to ensure your understanding.
PART I —Guidelines for Business Attire Code
1.1 Definition:
Business Attire, as the most important dress code of our daily practice, refers to the very formal dress that we implement not only when we take a formal meeting with external customers, but also when we are working in back office.
1.2 Eligibility
All employees working in IBM China premises including regular, supplemental, and contract staff. Business travelers into IBM China should also abide to this code.
1.3 Application
From Monday through Thursday, and in any formal business occasion.
1.4 Choices
1.4.1 Appropriate
1.4.1.1 For gentlemen
Suits, jacket, dress shirt, tie (Discreet colors & patterns, matched with each other)
Trousers
Dark color, leather dress shoes; Dark color socks
1.4.1.2 For ladies
Suits, jacket, dress shirt, or sets(Discreet colors & patterns, matched with each other) ,blouse
Trousers, dress skirts
Dress shoes;
1.4.2 Inappropriate for Business Attire (male or female employees)
Business causal & others (Please see the following for your reference)
PART II—Guidelines for Business Causal Code
2.1 Definition
Business Causal is a part of our Dress Code, a workplace practice which aims to provide a more comfortable working environment. Compared with the Business Attire, Business Causal is less formal, though still in formal scope. (Please bear in mind that it is strongly recommended that we dress business attire in Business Causal Days.)
2.2 Eligibility
All employees working in IBM China including regular, supplemental and contract staff. Business travelers into IBM China should also abide to this code.
2.3 Application
Only for Friday, when no formal meetings or appointments scheduled
2.4 Choices:
2.4.1 Appropriate:
For gentlemen
Blouses & short or long sleeve shirts; Polo shirts (collared T-shirts)
Slacks/khakis /corduroy pants
Causal leather shoes
2.4.1.2 For ladies
Blouses & short or long sleeve shirts; Polo shirts (collared T-shirts)
Slacks/khakis /corduroy pants/skirts(over knees)
Leather shoes,sandal with sling backs
2.4.2 Not Appropriate:
2.4.2.1 For gentlemen
Clothes without sleeves ;T-shirts or polo shirts, without collar
Jeans ;Trousers with more than four pockets; Shorts, regardless of length
Sports footwear or sandals
Body-hugging wear
Sheer clothing or dressed in extremely gaudy colors
Clothing displaying offensive language, derogatory statements or large message prints
Sports Cap
2.4.2.2 For ladies
Clothes without sleeves ;T-shirts or polo shirts, without collar
Jeans ;Trousers with more than four pockets; Shorts, regardless of length; Mini-Skirts
Sports footwear or mules
Body-hugging wear
Sheer clothing or dressed in extremely gaudy colors
Clothing displaying offensive language, derogatory statements or large message prints
Sports cap
2.4.3 Accessory
In addition, garment accessories should be simple and quiet (i.e. not loud or dazzling). No sunglasses indoors please, whether they are fasten across your face or perched on your head.
Part III—Enforcement
3.1 When attending the external meeting, you should abide to the dress announcement in the meeting invitation. Otherwise, a proper and professional image is the guideline for your reference.
3.2 When travel to IBM locations in other country, please refer to the Dress Code of that country.
3.3 Whenever you will be on business trip in the afternoon or just came back from one, you should not come to office on casual attire. Please understand that only proper business attire is permitted when working in the office.
3.4 Your manager is responsible to ensure employees understand and adhere to IBM's Dress Code. In the event, if the staff's clothes are considered inappropriate, the manager is to take quick corrective actions, including sending the employee to change clothes.
